BIOGRAPHY

Stefano Fanara was born in Favara ( Ag), Italy on February 11th, 1963.
From a very early age an innate creative force led him to art. He started painting with tempera, then he painted with acrylic, Indian ink, oils and watercolours.
As an adult he began experimenting with the potential in different expressive mediums using industrial and natural materials such as tar, resins, different types of sand soil.
He uses very different techniques, learned from the most varied artistic and cultural backgrounds. In Fanara, Sicily, he began meeting   local artist and started  a deep friendships with them.
In 1989 he moved to Modena where he started working as  primary school teacher. Fashinated by experimentation and by new techniques in painting and photography he became interested in dance, zen meditation, theatre, and cinema. Thanks to this experimental pursuit he began working with important personalities in the field of theatre, painting and cinema and attended their intensive  workshops.  Among them we remember: Cecar Brie, Alfonso Sant’Antagata, Francis Pardeilhan, Prashant, Enririque Vargas, Jane Champion, Fusako Yusaki, Alan Parker, Giuseppe Tornatore, Dario Fo.
Between 1997 and 1999 he  painted  the collection of    pictures  named "Meditation and Art"  and
“The Creation of the Sign” which drew the attention  of  the national and international press.
In 2003 he produced the series of large-format paintings in oil on linen  "The Presence of Reason" that after the opening exhibition  in Bologna was shown in Germany, Belgium, and Holland.
In 2006 he painted more than sixty  canvases in oil on linen for the artistic production "Chaos" that was on display in Bologna, Paris, and St. Petersburg, in Russia.
In 2010 he founded the Map 13 “ Proactive Artistic Movement” and  since then he has been  producing  new paintings, large-scale  photographic works, sculptures, and videos.
Stefano Fanara has exhibited in many countries and his works are part of important public and private collections in Italy, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Canada, Belgium, France, United Arab Emirates, and  U.S.A.
Important personalities wrote critical notes about him, such as  Paolo Levi, Antonio Priolo, Stefano Gualdi, Luciano Lepri, Paola Naldi, Valerio Grimaldi, Marcello Riccioni, Giorgio Di Genova, Philippe Daverio,Valerio Dehò.
Stefano Fanara lives and works in Bologna. He has a degree in Pedagogy (in the field of Literature and Philosophy ) and he is specialised in teaching  children with special needs.
